Looks Back

                                                                Looks Back

During the year, we had many ppd sessions weekly and we had done many group activities in order to develop our personal progress. As this episode of my blog is the last episode of the year, I would like to look back for past days and check whether we had developed our soft skills as we hoped at the beginning.

According my point of view, in these sessions we had gain new memories and we had build a strong bong among batch mates. We cared and listen to each other. We shared knowledge and we limited resources. Whatever  we do, whenever  we do, our lecturer always there with us. We are very much thankful to her for her great effort and for her courage.

In every week, we had a new experience. ( Lava River, Paper Tower, Egg Protector, Cultural Show,....) week by week, without our concern, we had improve our skills to work in a proper manner.

Most interesting moment of the ppd session was out bound training program in navy camp trincomalee. In that beautiful environment we had our most unforgettable ppd session. Working with a group is more difficult than working alone. But alone we can do a little; together we can do so much

Being motivated and inspired we can achieve all the goals    effectively as well as efficiently. Integrity , sense of responsibility, discipline,  sense of group work are few major work ethics that we learnt.

After continuing our trip nearly at 10.30 am we reached our destination the navy camp. It was a place with well constructed and strictly maintained and good security system and with good facilities. There were separate accommodation for girls and boys. After being there for some time then we again started to continue our program activities. then we had our lunch. After having our lunch an Officer gave a short speech and finally we reach beach to continue our activities.

Activity 02

As the Second activity we had to select 8 from our group without the leader with the leader it was 9.

Barter Puzzle

Fun Way Of Sharing And Achieving Goals

Last PPD Session Was One of the most interesting Session I had.All of us had been divided in to three groups and to each of our group a picture was given and we hall had to remember that Specific picture in our mind.

Then the group lead had to tear it in to 100 pieces. Then Miss Sarasi took 10 pieces from the above mentioned 100 pieces from each of our group and mixed them all together. Then our Goal was to complete this picture as fast as we can.

Each of our team had to come up with a way to get those pieces back - either through negotiating, trading, exchanging team members etc.

So as the first step we tried to select what are the pieces we exactly want and not . Then we try to exchange unnecessary picture pieces with other group to get the pieces we want. Then finally within
a limited time we were able to achieve what we had  to achieve but unfortunately none of our team couldn't do it 100% correctly.

Egg Protection

                                                          EGG PROTECTION

First an egg ,five A4 sheets were given to each of our team. Then we have to make a structure which could protect the egg when its fallen from a height. So first we discussed with all our group members which kind of structure  should we make then finally we came to a solution we will make cone shaped structure to save the egg.Step by step we were able to make our cone like structure then all of our teams together and tried the experiment on saving the egg .  Fortunately our structure was able to protect the egg.

From this activity we gained lot of things to our life

  • One of the most important thing we got was how to take the correct decision at the correct time ,at the correct place without any doubt.
  • Some of them are how to listen to others and work cooperatively and achieve our desired target as a team.
  • As our decided structure was successful , We were able to handle strategy of preventing.
  • Also this activity helps us to understand the importance of team and to highlight aspects of project management.
  • We learn how to maintain good  communication with others to express our ideas.

Team work

                                                      Stand on the paper

To each of our groups a large paper was given. The objective of the game was for everyone to keep their feet on the paper and have no part of their body touching the floor. In this game everyone of our teams had to squeeze as much as together. For each round that was successfully ended, we had to fold the paper in half and attempt to stand on it again and kept folding the paper in half again and again until we were unable to successfully stand on the paper as a group.

From this game also we learn many things. Some of them are mentioned below.

  • How to work as a team.
  • How to manage our given materials to reach our target.
  • How to work in co-operation.
  • How to maintain a good communication.
  • How to balance the things
  • Team compatibility.

                                                            The lava river

First we were devided in to 3 groups and each group had 8 members. To play the game lava river four plates were given as our materials. What we had to done was we had to use those plates and go across the lava river. The river was filled with lava so none of as cant touch the river.these plate can be placed on the river as stepping stones and can be moved around. If anyone makes contact with the river then that person was considered as fell in to the lava river and had to go back to the starting point. The team that got its team members across in the minimum time won.on the lava river there were some special point and on those point there were marks and that marks were added to our final marks.

From this game we got an idea about

  • How we can work as a team.
  • How to communicate with others to achieve our received target.
  • To work in co-operation.
  • How our leadership skills should be improved.
  • In which way we can use our ability in problem solving phase and etc.

  5.  Helps to improve our communication skills.
  6.  Improve critical thinking and problem solving.
  7.  How to face on a work attentively .
  8.  It also a chance to sharpen their talent.
  9.  It improved self-awareness.
  10.  This is a opportunity to both receive and give support.
  11.  Membership and learning of successful  behaviors.
  12.   Helps to socialization and engaging sober activity.

  describe skills..................................

    Organising and Planning Skills
Being organised is essential to getting tasks done.
If you don’t know what needs to be done, and by when, it’s quite hard to make it happen by your deadline.Shapers, Implementers and Completer-Finishers are all characterised by good organising skills, and can usually be relied upon to put in place strong systems for managing projects well.

           Decision-Making
Being able to make decisions is also crucial to moving things forward.
Although it may be important to take time to gather information to ensure that the  decision is right, there may come a time when any decision is better than none.
Group decision-making often requires compromise, and sometimes a willingness to give up one’s own point of view in favour of the group’s shared decision.

Shapers and Monitor-Evaluators are both good decision-makers.
Shapers, however, tend to make their own decisions quickly and then may struggle to compromise.
Monitor-Evaluators tend to look for the right decision from the available evidence, and may be slow to make a decision if there is a shortage of evidence.

Task-focused people are often adept at problem-solving, especially if the problem relates to the task.
Plants look for innovative ideas to solve the problem, and Implementers will turn ideas into practical action.
Shapers will see the ‘big picture’ and the overall plan, making sure that the solution to the problem does not result in a change of direction.

          And Finally…
It is important to remember that all team working situations are fundamentally about working with other people.

PPD

  PERSONAL PROGRESS DEVELOPMENT

  •  what is personal devolopment planning?

  Personal Development Planning means:
üreflecting on your own learning, performance and achievements
üplanning your all-round personal, educational and career development
ü recording your achievements.
PDP can help you to:
increase your self-awareness – who you are and what you want to
identify the skills and experience that you already have, and  that you need
create a plan to acquire the skills you may need for your academic studies or your chosen career path
keep a record of your achievements that you can draw on when you        apply for further study or employment

  •  Career development

Planning and developing your career is an ongoing process, not just something that you do when circumstances make it a necessity.
Whatever stage you are at in your career – looking for a new job; planning your next move; looking for ways to challenge and develop yourself – the University offers a wide range of tools, support and guidance to help you along the way.
Check out the links on the left for details of a number of initiatives designed to support your career development.
  • Personal Skills for Body and Mind
Perhaps the most fundamental of all skills are those concerned with self-preservation - that is, staying healthy in both body and mind. This section of SkillsYouNeed covers some ideas that can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. My blog pages will  help to make sure that you are able to feel good about yourself.
Without good personal (or intra-personal) skills, you are less likely to be able to develop good interpersonal, presentation or leadership skills.
